The Birdy 3G can store up to 20 messages of 255 characters each and the user can choose from any of the 21 Alert Melodies. In addition to the integrated GSM module, an integrated GPS module is also included in the pager for geo-location applications. The 3G pager is available in VHF or UHF models and includes a rechargeable battery, a charger with power adapter, a clear plastic holster with belt clip and a lanyard in the standard package.
The Birdy 3G Pager is built to perform in severe working conditions. Its reinforced housing and overall mechanical design allows it to withstand incidental splashes of water, dust intrusion and accidental pager drops. The pager is designed for operation in 12.5, 20, and 25 kHz channel spacing systems. A rechargeable Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery is the main power source, rated at 3.7 VDC and 1300 mA. Depending upon pager configuration and message activity, operational time can be as much as 520 hours. The Birdy 3G POCSAG Pager is PC programmable, has a physical size of 3.7 x 2.3 x 0.8 inches and weighs 4.2 ounces.
The GSM cellular module of the Birdy 3G Pager is a quad-band device, allowing the pager to be operational in the 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz bands for GSM, GPRS, and EDGE operating protocols. Cellular output power is 2 watts in the 850 and 900 MHz bands and 1 watt in the 1800 and 1900 bands. GSM cellular messaging can be accomplished in either M2M mode (machine-to-machine) or SMS mode (text messaging).
The internal GPS module can be enabled or disabled through PC programming. If enabled, the module can alert a safety center when the pager has moved out of a pre-determined geographical area. When “man-down” or “deadman” situations exist, GPS enabled pager users can send an emergency call. A user can easily disable the GPS functionality at any time.
