The Birdy 3G has 21 Alert Melodies and has memory for up to 20 messages of 255 characters. Along with its GSM capability, the pager also has an integrated GPS module for geo-location applications. Available in either VHF or UHF frequency bands, the standard package for the Birdy 3G FLEX pager includes the pager with rechargeable battery, a charger with power adapter, a clear plastic holster with a belt clip and a lanyard.
The Birdy 3G Pager is designed and built for operation in harsh working environments. It has a reinforced housing meant to withstand mechanical blows, dust intrusion, and accidental splashes of water. The pager is fully operational in 12.5, 20, and 25 kHz channel spacing systems. It is powered by a 3.7 VDC, 1300 mA rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery with an operating time of up to 520 hours, depending upon pager configuration and message activity. The Birdy 3G is PC programmable, has a physical size of 3.7 x 2.3 x 0.8 inches and weighs 4.2 ounces.
In GSM, the pager is a quad-band device, operational in the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequency bands. The 850 and 900 MHz bands use 2 watts of output power while the 1800 and 1900 MHz bands use 1 watt. GSM users are able to receive cellular messages sent in either M2M mode (machine-to-machine) or in SMS (short message service or text messaging). The integrated GPS module can alert a safety center when the pager is no longer in a pre-determined geographical area. Users can send an emergency call if a “man-down” or “deadman” situation exists. PC programming software can set the GPS module to be enabled or disabled. If programmed for operation, the GPS functionality can be easily disabled by the user at any time.
