Setup of the Gearstar Pager Programmer includes connecting the serial cable into the programming fixture and onto an available COM port of the computer. Adding the adapter as the power source will light a single red LED to indicate the unit has power. Install and configure the latest version of the appropriate programming software.
The Gearstar Pager is programmed with both battery cover and battery removed. Pins on the programming fixture match up with connections in the battery compartment of the pager. The Gearstar is positioned over the two programming pins with the two metal tabs on the outside edge of the programmer lined up with the corresponding metal tabs on the bottom of the pager. The Gearstar Pager must be held down in the fixture while reading or programming, while ensuring the red LED located just above the power jack stays on constantly.
