The Informer is setup with a Windows based software program and a PC connection to a built-in RS232 port at the back of the device. It can be configured to alert with a number of coding protocols. 2-Tone Sequential, Single Tone, and DTMF coding formats are standard protocols while EAS for decoding NOAA radio SAME code and Federal Signal Digital protocols are optional. Digital or Tone Coded Squelch (PL) selections are also available. Up to 4 frequency channels can be programmed into the Informer as well as 6 coding addresses. Each coding address can be individually configured for any of the coding protocols, any of 8 alert types, and control of 2 programmable relay outputs.
The alert types for the Informer include “Warble”, “Steady”, “Beep”, and “Hi-Low” sounds. Soft alert versions for each of these sounds can also be configured. A final option is “None” where no alert is configured. The 2 individual programmable relays are rated for operation up to 5A @30VDC and can be configured to activate/deactivate at timed or auto-programmed intervals. These outputs can be used to control other alerting devices such as strobe lights for the hearing impaired.
Each Informer has a built-in backup battery unit with charger that provides emergency power if normal AC power fails. The battery should provide power for more than 1.5 hours in full monitor mode and many more hours if in standby. Other features include a low battery indicator, built-in diagnostics, and a clearly marked LED front panel that flashes when an emergency alert has been received.
